Maserin: Tradition and Innovation in Crafting Collector's Knives

The Maserin Cutlery, founded in 1960 in the "city of knives" (Maniago), has always sought to blend tradition and innovation in their craft.

Brothers Claudia, Gianfranco, and Maurizio Maserin, in their pursuit of excellence, have consistently experimented with and embraced new techniques to complement their artisanal production methods.

To create the commemorative knife "BeluM," they embarked on a quest to find a specialized center for additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping.

Challenge

Maurizio, responsible for production, aimed to create a knife inspired by the bayonets of the "Carcano 91" rifle using a new construction method to make "BeluM" more exclusive.

Maserin chose to collaborate with H-ARP to merge tradition and innovation in design and leverage the opportunities offered by additive manufacturing.

Solution

Harnessing H-ARP's research-oriented approach and expertise in additive manufacturing, Maserin began using metal 3D printing to refine the design of the tang component, ensuring it integrated with the overall aesthetics of the knife.

Joint Design

Maserin's experience in traditional knife production techniques combined with H-ARP's knowledge in additive manufacturing, resulting in a unique blend of craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology.

Evolved Prototypes

Through an iterative process, evolved prototypes were continuously refined to ensure the knife achieved a high level of balance and functionality.

Production

After testing the samples, Maserin initiated the initial production run of 200 pieces (available for sale at a price of 389 euros).

Benefits
  • The BeluM knife honors the rich tradition of Maniago while embracing cutting-edge additive manufacturing.
  • Market Response: The uniqueness of the offering has generated excitement among collectors and has become an item to display in collections.
  • Synergistic Collaboration: Leveraging each other's strengths, Maserin and H-ARP have created an innovative product that showcases the best of both worlds.
