Italian Tech Alliance and Growth Capital have published data on venture capital investments.
For the first time, Italy is the European country that has seen the most significant growth in investments in startups and innovative companies, with a +48% differential recorded between 2021 and 2022, compared to very limited growth recorded in France and a decline in the United Kingdom, Spain, and Germany.
Considering the segmentation of rounds by type, there were a total of 57 Series A rounds, 19 Series B rounds, and 176 Seed rounds, which remain the most common type (50% of the year's operations).
The sector with the highest number of announced deals is Smart City (54), followed by Software and DeepTech with 44 and 40, respectively. Looking at the total amount invested, Smart City (501 million euros) and FinTech (499 million euros) are the sectors that raised the most in 2022, representing 55% of the total investment for the entire year.
The top five rounds in 2022 were: Satispay (Series D, 320 million euros), Newcleo (Series A, 300 million euros), Scalapay (Series B, 212 million euros), Casavo (Series D, 100 million euros), and Medical Micro Instruments (Series B, 73 million euros).
In 2022, international investors participated in 26% of rounds exceeding 1 million euros, a figure in line with 2021. However, in terms of the amount raised, the proportion of rounds with the presence of international investors significantly increased, rising from 58% in 2021 to 67% in 2022.
In 2022, international investors participated in rounds with an average size more than double that of rounds with only national investors (9.5 million euros compared to 4.3 million euros).
