Additive Manufacturing offers innovative production methods that cannot be achieved with traditional technologies; a very simple example is the production of a hollow sphere.
With subtractive manufacturing, the production of a hollow sphere requires multiple steps and the need to reassemble the sphere once the inside is removed.
With additive manufacturing, we can produce it in a single step, resulting in a homogeneous product without welding or joining.
Similarly, we can design very complex objects in terms of shape and structure, with high strength and lower weight compared to solid or molded productions, thanks to the ability to create honeycomb or lattice structures.
In Friuli Venezia Giulia, there are:
- A world-leading company and pioneer in the field of 3D technologies applied to orthopedics: Lima Corporate.
- Three universities (UniUD, UniTs, and SISSA) that have established the Laboratory of Advanced Mechatronics (LAMA).
- A reference cluster for the regional metalworking system, COMET, which brings together nearly 4,000 companies.
- A specialized technology school that trains higher-level technicians in strategic technological areas for economic development and business competitiveness: MITS Malignani.
- The Luigi Danieli Scientific and Technological Park in Udine, integrated and closely related to local research and businesses.
